They represent up to 35-40% of the intercellular \u201ccement\u201d components, which are part of the natural skin barrier. They enclose the hydration in the skin and protect it from damage. Due to age and external impact, their production gradually decreases and skin begins to age.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Phytoceramides<\/strong> are plant-derived ceramides. These have a similar lipid structure to the ceramides found in the skin and can, thus, replenish them. The anti-aging effect of phytoceramides has also been demonstrated by research that has confirmed improvement in the smoothness and elasticity of the skin after several weeks of use. While ceramides can be used dermally, phytoceramides are recommended in the form of nutritional supplements.
